So it all started with FRIENDS, you know the best show ever? After my best friend past away from cancer, I had to be care full what I watch on TV. If anything was stressful, sad, or heaven forbid someone died, I turned into a sobbing mess for the day, or longer. The good news was, that my husband, hadn’t seen many episodes of FRIENDS. I had seen ever episode and knew it was time to revisit, so that is what we watched for months. I don’t know if you remember, but at one point, Monica has this long beautiful hair and I wanted that same look.
After doing some research and asking around, hair extensions seems out of my budget, and rumor had it they were lots of work. When I heard it took 3 hours to get them put in, my desire for them was lost. I tried to find other solutions. I started taking these yummy vitamins although my hair improved, I wasn’t sprouting Rapunzel hair. I ended up purchasing some flip in hair extensions, with the invisible string. You basically put them on like a headband for instantly longer hair. My experience was undesirable, they knotted way too easily and brushing them out was near impossible. The final straw was a friend of mine, who had them said, the string was causing a bald spot. I quickly retired the flip extensions, and just accepted my natural hair.
However a year a half later, I was still yearning for that long luscious full hair look. I decided, I would take the plug and get extensions. My husband’s hair dresser had been wearing them for years, and I knew she did them for her clients. After a conversation with her I learned, they were not as expensive as I thought and if you did the tape in extensions, you were not hostage to the chair for hours, more like 20 minutes. I couldn’t wait for my appointment. I was asked to show up with clean hair, since once they are put in you do not want to wash your hair for at least 48 hours. I showed up ready for some Monica worthy locks! She pre-order my hair after we colored matched from Hot Heads Hair Extensions.
I wasn’t going after length, my goal was to have a fuller hair at my same length. After 30 minutes, my hair was in and curled!
At first they are super shiny, so you have to figure out how to make your normal hair as glossy as your fake hair. But after testing some products you can figure that out quickly.
The best part: How good does my hair look in pictures and real life?!?!? I love the look, I can do everything I did before with them in, including dying my hair. The only thing I will say, is drying and styling takes about double the time, but I have double the hair.
The maintenance: The only change to my normal hair care products was switching to a sulfate free shampoo. I have to go every 6-8 weeks for a re-tape, which takes 20 minutes. The hair I bought should last at least six months, my amazing hair stylist Jana, just needs to move the tape up as my hair grows. She is priced right, and doesn’t charge you hundreds of dollars to put them, which is rare. She is based in Southern California, either in Thousand Oaks or Palm Springs.
If you have been considering, I can’t tell you enough how much I wish I did this years ago.
